Tuesday, August 31st, 2010Operation Enduring Mortgage Last night we began gutting the church. I learned 3 important lessons while doing demolition work:
1.) Fiberglass insulation may look like cotton candy but it's not nearly as nice
2.) A well-stocked beer fridge attracts neighborhood helpers
3.) An old building never ceases to surprise you when its layers are peeled back
On that last point, we were downright flummoxed to discover a 4' x 5' single-paned window sandwiched between sheets of drywall in an interior wall. The glass and frame are in excellent condition, especially given that Andrew was pummeling the wall with a sledgehammer. We can't figure out what purpose the window served, but an even more intriguing mystery is why someone decided to
frame around it when the wall was built.
Here's the wall before tear-out:
And here's what we found underneath:
Andrew is angry and confused:
Here's another wall of the same room before I attacked it with the fury of a thousand angry clowns:
And here's the carnage:
All I need to do is slap a Justin Bieber poster on the wall and we can call this room done.
Good work!
Looks like a fun, exhausting project! I love these types of photos and blogs!
I'm liking that big picture window, though.
